What is palmitoylethanolamide?

Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) is a saturated fatty acid diethanolamide. A natural (endogenous) fatty acid amide which is already present in our bodies. It is produced when our cells are under some kind of stress, be it due to trauma, inflammation, illness or even lack of oxygen.

PEA has many health benefits. It stops pain and inflammation, protects the heart, and improves brain function. It is a substance produced in the body naturally to combat inflammation. Outside the body, it can be found in soybean lecithin, egg yolk, peanut meal, and other foods.

How does palmitoylethanolamide work

1. The first one is through a direct or indirect effect on receptors found on the surface of our cells.

These receptors let various molecules bind to them and when this binding occurs, a biological action is triggered inside a cell. There are many different kinds of receptors and it is believed that even more of them are still undiscovered, especially within the endocannabinoid system, through which THC and CBD also exert their health benefits.
