Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) capsules (400mg/capsule)

What is palmitoylethanolamide?

Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) is a saturated fatty acid diethanolamide. A natural (endogenous) fatty acid amide which is already present in our bodies. It is produced when our cells are under some kind of stress, be it due to trauma, inflammation, illness or even lack of oxygen.
PEA has many health benefits. It stops pain and inflammation, protects the heart, and improves brain function. It is a substance produced in the body naturally to combat inflammation. Outside the body, it can be found in soybean lecithin, egg yolk, peanut meal, and other foods.
Since its discovery in the 1950s, PEA has been widely researched as a pain suppressant and anti-inflammatory. It has been found to have little unknown side effects. Now, PEA is available as a supplement in tablet, capsule, and powder form to help with chronic and neuropathic pain relief, for example, PEA capsules, Ultra-micronized PEAPEA PowderIt is popular in some European countries, especially in the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, and Germany, mostly used as a supplement for chronic pain and chronic inflammation.

“However, a great body of evidence exists for PEA, comprising at least 40 clinical trials in around 6,000 subjects.  This body of evidence shows a positive risk-benefit ratio for PEA, warranting much wider use of this compound by the medical community”

How does palmitoylethanolamide work

1. The first one is through a direct or indirect effect on receptors found on the surface of our cells.
These receptors let various molecules bind to them and when this binding occurs, a biological action is triggered inside a cell. There are many different kinds of receptors and it is believed that even more of them are still undiscovered, especially within the endocannabinoid system, through which THC and CBD also exert their health benefits.
However, what we know by now about PEA and receptors is already more than amazing. So far, it has been discovered that PEA affects 5 different receptors either directly or through other naturally present compounds such as anandamide.
Through these receptors, PEA works its magic and relieves chronic and acute pain, removes excessive inflammation, helps muscle recovery and immunity and restores homeostasis. This is how things work naturally. The only problem is that our bodies can’t create enough palmitoylethanolamide to deal with chronic conditions. Adding PEA as a supplement increases its amounts in our bodies and makes these defensive and preventive processes more effective.
2. Entourage effect through anandamide

Anandamide is an endogenous fatty acid neurotransmitter which affects CB1 and CB2, the two most famous cannabinoid receptors. It is most familiar for reducing pain but recent studies suggest that it also inhibits breast cancer cells proliferation, helps with depression and anxiety and regulates sleep and eating. It is a true example of why the endocannabinoid system is significant.

However, anandamide is quickly broken down by the FAAH enzyme. It is effective for a short time before it disappears. Increasing the levels of PEA in our bodies perpetuates the effectiveness of AEA, enables it to work faster and easier. This is achieved in two different ways.
First of all, PEA has the same pathways as AEA and secondly, it is also broken down by FAAH. The more PEA and AEA there is, the more effective they are and the longer they last before decomposition.
Adding CBD oil to the mix also helps both PEA and AEA, since CBD is famous for inhibiting FAAH allowing both PEA and AEA to work for longer.

What is L-alpha-glycerylphosphorylcholine(Alpha GPC)?

What is L-alpha-glycerylphosphorylcholine?

L-alpha-glycerylphosphorylcholine (Alpha GPC or Choline alfoscerate), is a key brain cell membrane phospholipid and cholinergic precursor. It is a source of choline for the synthesis of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, with a greater ability to penetrate the blood-brain barrier than conventional choline sources. Choline alfoscerate is an important neurotransmitter and phospholipid precursor providing support for age-related decline in cognitive function, memory, and cerebrovascular health.

In Europe, it is prescribed to treat Alzheimer’s disease. In the United States, it is an over-the-counter nootropic dietary choline supplement intended to improve memory and cognitive function, as well as encourage muscle building.

How Does L-alpha-glycerylphosphorylcholine Works?

Choline from the diet is transported to the brain for use. Extra choline is stored in cell membranes, and Alpha GPC is an intermediate step. The process begins when choline is converted into a substance called CDP-choline, which is then converted into another chemical called PC. This is used as a building block in cell membranes. Later, when there is a shortage of choline, PC is extracted from cell membranes. This PC is broken down into Alpha GPC, which is further broken down into choline.
Ingested Alpha GPC enters brain cells easily and waits until it’s needed. Now, when brain cells require more choline, they have a choice between grabbing PC from their membranes or using what’s floating around. The latter option skips a step in the process and preserves the integrity of cell membranes. This, in turn, allows the brain to maintain high cognitive function without self-destructing.

What is Oleoylethanolamide (OEA)?

Oleoylethanolamide (OEA) or N-Oleoylethanolamide (OEA) is a molecule produced in the body, usually found in the intestines. Increasing evidence suggests that OEA may act as an endogenous neuroprotective factor and participate in the control of reward-related behaviors. Also, it has been described as a peripherally acting agent that reduces food intake and body weight gain.

Where it comes from:

Oleoylethanolamide (OEA) or N-Oleoylethanolamide (OEA) is a lipid that's synthesized naturally by the intestines.
The presence of Oleoylethanolamide (OEA) is higher during the day when the body is fully saturated with food and lower at nighttime during periods of starvation.

What it'll do for you:

"Studies report that OEA can turn off the switch in the central nervous system for hunger," explains Roberta Anding, RD, ADA spokesperson, and sports dietitian for the Houston Texans.

How does Oleoylethanolamide (OEA) work?

Before 2001, there wasn't much research on Oleoylethanolamide supplement or N-Oleoylethanolamide (OEA). But that year, Spanish researchers broke down the lipid and studied how it's made, where it's used and what it does. They tested the effect of OEA on the brain (of rats) by injecting it directly into the brain ventricles. They found no effect on eating and confirmed that OEA does not act in the brain, but rather, it triggers a separate signal that affects hunger and eating behavior.

Oleoylethanolamide (OEA) or N-Oleoylethanolamide (OEA) acts on a receptor called Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptor Alpha (PPARα). When this receptor is activated in the intestines of rats, the animals consume less food. Research on rats shows that both injections and oral intake of OEA cause a reliable reduction in the amount of food eaten.

How to take Oleoylethanolamide (OEA)?
Research on rats has observed effects at a daily dose of 10mg/kg of body weight. This is roughly equivalent to the following human dosages:
100mg for a 150lb person
145mg for a 200lb person
180mg for a 250lb person
Main Function of Oleoylethanolamide (OEA)
  • Modulate food intake
  • Modulate lipid and glucose metabolism
  • The beneficial effect on analgesic
  • Promote neurogenesis and neuroplasticity after focal cerebral ischemia
  • Antidepressant

Application of Oleoylethanolamide (OEA)
Mainly mix with Green Tea extract, Green Coffee bean extract, phosphatidylcholine, and other ingredients. Used in Healthcare supplement, made into Hard capsule or tablet for Weight loss.

Pterostilbene and Resveratrol

(amy.cheng@cimasci.com)

Resveratrol (3,5,4’-trihydroxy-trans-stilbene), is a stilbenoid, a type of natural phenol. As one of the popular anti-aging supplements was discovered in 1963 when it was found in Japanese Knotweed. Now sources of resveratrol naturally from knotweed, grapes skin, etc.

Pterostilbene (trans-3,5-dimethoxy-4-trihydroxystilbene) is a stilbenoid chemically related to resveratrol, is the main antioxidant component of blueberries, and Pterocarpus marsupium heartwood. Some studies suggest it may be more useful for health than its close relation, so it may be as super resveratrol.

Difference between Pterostilbene and Resveratrol

Pterostilbene and resveratrol both have the same role in the plant’s defense system. “Resveratrol is one of the main phytoalexins in grapes, pterostilbene in blueberries,” explained Jeremy Bartos, Ph.D., pTeroPure product manager for ChromaDex of Irvine, CA. “The only difference between the two is the presence of two methoxy groups in pterostilbene (resveratrol has three hydroxyl groups, pterostilbene has one along with the two methoxys).

It’s the methoxy groups that make all of the difference when it comes to utilizing these compounds in the human body. “Resveratrol has two things going against it,” said Dr. Bartos. “One is the fact that without the methoxy groups it is not as lipophilic (oil-soluble) as pterostilbene, so it’s cellular uptake is much less than pterostilbene - pterostilbene can be taken through the cell’s lipid bi-layer rather easily.”

The second difference has to do with how pterostilbene is filtered through the human liver. “The liver acts as the gatekeeper to the body; it filters everything that comes through and compounds it does not recognize (such as pharmaceuticals, plant chemicals, and toxins) it will tag for elimination from the body,” said Dr. Bartos. “In the case with stilbenes such as resveratrol and pterostilbene, the liver will typically glucuronidated (add a glucuronic acid molecule, a compound very similar to glucose) or sulfate any free hydroxyl groups it can find. Since resveratrol has three hydroxyl groups it is tagged for elimination much quicker and easier than pterostilbene with only one hydroxyl group, leading to a half-life in the blood of ~14 minutes compared to ~105 minutes for pterostilbene.”①

Pterostilbene offers the following advantages over resveratrol:
Superior bioavailability
Significantly longer half-life
Greater cellular uptake
Greater oral absorption and metabolic stability ②

How Pterostilbene and Resveratrol Work Together

Scientists have found that resveratrol activates genes near the beginning of the molecular cascade precipitated by caloric restriction. These, in turn, activate a broad array of disease-preventing genes. In essence, resveratrol’s beneficial genetic action takes place “upstream”. Pterostilbene directly activates genes “downstream” from the sites of resveratrol’s action. This complements resveratrol’s ability to help prevent cancer and diabetes, and support healthy blood lipids. Acting together, resveratrol and pterostilbene produce potent longevity-promoting effects across the cycle of gene expression through complementary mechanisms.③
